Kate Spade the designer of the Kate Spade New York was born in 1962 in Missouri. She majored in journalism at the Arizona State University, after college she worked in the accessory department of Mademoiselle in Manhattan. When she left Mademoiselle in 1991 she was the senior fashion/head of accessories. It was when she worked for the company she realized that she wanted to create a new style of handbag, something different and something fresh.
Kate married Andy Spade the brother of actor and comedian David Spade. Together Kate and Andy began their own company called Kate Spade Handbags. Today she has expanded into a home collection of bedding, a stationary, personal organizations, China, shoes and beauty products. Kate and Andy also created a men’s brand called Jack Spade. Kate first opened her own shop in 1996 in Soho in New York City. Now she has shops all over the world.
